In Eternal Memory of Our Great Grandfather

On this solemn day, as we mark 99 years since the passing of our great-grandfather on 2nd September 1926, we pause to honour a life steeped in grace, wisdom, and spiritual depth. He was not merely the elder of our family – he was its dharam dee roshni, the moral compass whose quiet strength shaped generations.

A deeply principled man, his life was a silent sermon in humility, truth, and compassion. Long before legacy became a fashionable word, he lived it, through service, simplicity, and unwavering faith.

For many years, our family honoured his memory through kirtan sammelans, drawing strength from collective remembrance. But remembrance must evolve, and today, that torch has found a digital home, thanks to the tireless efforts of my Chacha – General Surjit Singh.

Chacha ji, what you have created through amolak.in—and especially your reflective post “I Discovered a Treasure Trove”, is not just a website. It is a sacred space. A place where memory meets meaning, and where reverence is reborn for the digital age. Your devotion to documenting our heritage is an act of seva in its purest form.

Your words are not just beautifully written, they are imbued with love, discipline, and soldierly grace. You have not only preserved our great-grandfather’s legacy, you have magnified it. For that, we offer our deepest thanks, with hearts full of pride and hands folded in ardaas.

I was transported to those “Golden Days” with the “Diamonds” of India, while reading the chronology. Thanks for sharing and enlightening me.

Just wondering if Taus is the same as Dilruba (musical instrument).

It is nice to read the names of so many Muslims in this work: Haji Mohammed Maskin, Nabina Hakim and Allah Yaar Kalyar. It appears to me that the tow communities lived in harmony during the times of Bhai Hira Singh ji. When did the split occur and why?
Could you throw some light on that?
