It was a serious shortcoming of the Navigator and difficult to reason why it did so. Glad that Mr Aggarwal and his son could finally make it to their destination. An interesting read.

Sometime ago, we awaited the arrival of guests from Delhi & being past the estimated time of their arrival, I decided to wait another 15 minutes to take into account the hazards of Delhi traffic & the resultant delay. When 15 minutes extra time went past, I decided to call up the guests, our Samdhan, to enquire. After a few repeats we finally got connected & she explained that they were in an unfamiliar area & should be reaching in another 45 minutes or so.
On arrival, they were all fatigued by then, hence first task was to offer water & cold drinks before making any queries. After they settled down, asked as to what were the reasons for the delay in their journey. It turned out that at a Y junction the GPS pointed in a direction & when that was followed, they journeyed away from Noida onto an Expressway. This in turn forced a travel of a good 10 kms before they could take a U Turn & travel towards Noida, the destination. Lessons, as mentioned use of local guides can be of great help whenever the GPS route appears doubtful.

Interesting read and can relate to the article. GPS invariably puts the travellers to unwanted risks mostly it's unexpected turning into narrow lanes and sometimes unpaved roads by its continuous endeavour to take the shortest route. Personally experienced it at 03 different cities where GPS made us choose the narrowest of road despite alternate and better road available. it's earnest prayers that allows one to reach destination without any damage to the vehicle and emotional scars????
Feel choosing the bus(public transport) option on the Maps can help avoid unwanted short cuts. Plus as Surjit uncle says go for an older car and hire a local driver to beat GPS blues.
Happy n safe travels for the readers.
